About TEF

Our Mission

The Tooele Education Foundation promotes and enhances excellence in education throughout the Tooele County School District. Formed in 2010, TEF works to develop and implement school improvement initiatives, create model programs and projects, award innovative education and leadership, and fund and award student scholarships. TEF leverages community support and strives to strengthen and improve public education.

TEF coordinates, facilitates and serves as a catalyst to foster cooperation and create educational synergy between partners and the school district. By pooling resources from many donors, TEF helps foster a sense of unity among all those who share the goals of excellence in education in the Tooele County School District.

TEF Administration & Governance

The Tooele Education Foundation is governed by a board of directors, volunteers with unique and proven expertise,
who establish policies and procedures and empower the TEF staff to carry out a variety of work.

Sheldon Birch
Board President
Owner of Birch Family Pharmacies in Tooele, Grantsville, and Stansbury Park. Sheldon is a successful business and community leader — one who is a strong supporter of scholarships.
Alison McCoy
Board Vice President
Alison is proud of her Tooele County roots. She and her husband, Matt, own and operate Tooele Plumbing Services and Tooele Title Company. Alison is an alumnus of USU, a licensed title and escrow officer, a notary public, chair of the Tooele City Communities that Care, member of the USU-Tooele Dean’s Council, and member of the Scholar Academy school board. Alison recognizes that through education, relationships are strengthened and communities prosper.
Jake Johnson
Board Treasurer
Jake owns and manages JL Johnson CPA Firm in downtown Tooele. Jake values the many opportunities TEF provides throughout our educational community.
Becca Hall
Board Secretary
Becca is a Tooele County School District educator who is a strong teacher and student advocate. She is currently serving as the local education association’s president in addition to serving on the TEF board of directors.
Dr. Mark Ernst
Board Member, Tooele County School District Superintendent
Mark has risen through the Tooele County School District’s ranks as an classroom teacher, school administrator, and assistant superintendent. As Superintendent of TCSD, Mark is student-centered and highly values his teachers and staff.
Clayton Dunn
Board Member
Clayton is the Vice President of a local newspaper and publishing company, Tooele Transcript Bulletin. As a business executive and community leader, Clayton is a proponent of the family and learning.
Jeremy Scott
Board Member
Jeremy is an engineer by profession and is employed by FLSmidth. He is community leader and strong advocate children.
Matthew Potter
Board Member
Matt is the maintenance superintendent at Cargill’s local salt plant. He is a strong advocated for environmental education. Matt exemplifies the mantra…Cargill Cares” and helps ensure that Cargill is a sustaining level TEF supporter.
Karen Nelson
Board Member
Karen is a service-oriented community leader, and former member of the Tooele County School District’s Board of Education–Karen is an advocate for teaching and learning at all levels throughout the Tooele Valley.
Lark Reynolds
Board Member, Tooele County School District Business Administrator
Keith Bird
Executive Director
Keith is a homegrown Tooele native. As such, he has developed many wonderful personal and professional relationships that are used to enhance TEF’s mission.
Clint Spindler
Programs Supervisor
Clint served as a teacher and administrator in Tooele County School District for 30 years prior to retiring in 2017. A former TEF Executive Director, Clint currently serves as the foundation’s Programs Supervisor and Ophir Canyon Outdoor Education Center Administrator.
