Recently, TEF was happy to partner with Cargill to provide almost 800 backpacks and school supplies for children at the annual Back- to-School Community Closet, August 7-8 at Blue Peak High School. Besides backpacks and supplies, members of the community “shopped” the Community Closet, which included free, gently-used clothing and shoes, free hygiene products, and free haircuts.
2015 marked the eighth and highest-attended event for the Community Closet. In addition to TEF and Cargill, local sponsors included the Tooele Valley Rotary Club, the Tooele County School District, Valley Behavioral Health, and Walmart.
Hundreds of generous donations from Tooele County citizens, as well as many volunteers, contributed to the success of this year’s event. According to Kendall Thomas, event coordinator, “The citizens of Tooele County open up their hearts and closets to donate their gently used clothing. Their kindness and generosity makes it possible for other children and families to have the things they need to begin a successful new school year.“
